We all like dreams of the future more than what history leaves behind, but unconsciously and repeatedly our environment reflects the poor political decisions of the past. While the human misfortunes become part of history, the future shaping of our lives seeks to obey its consequences: As Martin Luther King quotes, “we are not makers of history – we are made by history”… However, the irreplaceable ability of humankind is to adjust. We see each restraint as a new way of generating possibilities and we find solutions sometimes beyond normality.

Our vision considers the demilitarised zone as the shelter of the non-politically contaminated Korean spirit, which imposes the underground bath house with a full transparency towards the sky. The two opposite entrances from South and North lead to the intertwined slopes which invite people into the core of a central meeting spot. The placement one above another of hot and cold pools creates a captivating surreal space in between where hot water is the ground and cold water becomes the roof. The simplicity of the spiral shape manifests the persistent wish for bringing people together regardless of faith, ethnicity or political ideology.
